The History

Whitney Ranch was founded in 1857 when George Whitney bought a 320-acre piece of property where present-day Rocklin, CA now stands. Whitney brought the land to support his newly built sheep business. The Whitney family eventually expanded their landholdings and stock as the sheep bred over time.

Whitney Ranch, otherwise known as Spring Valley Ranch, was historically located in Placer County's southern region. The ranch eventually grew as the Whitney family business expanded. Over time, Whitney Ranch grew to include a variety of lands, such as rolling hills to the west and various valleys divided by canyons and mountains.
